REVIVE . RESTORE . RELOVE
Learn how to look after and revive your Hudson Shoes with our instructional video.
Are you ever guilty of neglecting your shoes? You’re not the only one. Between work and play, there’s barely a spare moment to give them some well-deserved attention.
But there’s good news! It’s about quality, not quantity. And a once-every-so-often commitment to your shoe care can make a real difference. Take a hint or two from our experts below and your shoes could last you a lifetime.
CLEAN AND POLISH THE LEATHER
Remove any embedded dirt and clean them with a shoe brush. Don’t forget the soles – dirt can scratch them like sandpaper.
Remove the shoelaces (if any) to avoid staining them, allowing you to clean the tongue of the shoe thoroughly.
Last but not least, use a plain pencil eraser to eliminate scuff marks.
BE PATIENT WITH YOUR PATENT
Wipe off excess dirt, then clean with a damp cloth. Finally remove any excess moisture with a dry cloth
Never store them in plastic bags. The plasticiser in polythene (the thing that makes poly bags soft) leeches into the patent and makes the surface sticky
TIME TO SHINE
Select a polish that matches the colour of your shoes, applying evenly with a brush or soft cloth.
Once the polish has completely dried, buff the shoes using a natural bristle brush. Make sure to use a separate brush and cloth for each colour shoe.
MAINTAIN THE SHAPE
Make sure to store your shoes on stretchers in their boxes to maintain their shape.
Alternatively, you can stuff the toecap with newspaper or tissue. For boots, use boot shapers for the shaft and stuff the toe with newspaper. Never store or dry leather shoes near a radiator or other direct heat, as this can damage the leather.
SAVE YOUR SUEDE
Clean and waterproof your suede with a protector spray regularly and brush them before wearing. If your suede shoes get wet, stuff them with newspaper to maintain their shape and let them dry naturally, away from heat.
KEEP VELVET RICH
Our velvet designs require some extra care. Wipe off any dirt with a dry cloth or a lightly damp one for stubborn marks.
Use a soft brush to clean and be careful to brush the velvet in just one direction as so not to damage the velvet fibers. A protective spray works well to add and a layer of protection while out and about.
EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR SHOES
Leather soles require extra care due to their delicate and porous nature – remember they are breathable, but not waterproof. When they become soft in the middle of the sole, this is your indication to repair them. If you need increased versatility from your leather soles, add a rubber sole protector. This service is provided by most cobblers.
To make shoes last longer rotate them with another pair.
Always protect new shoes by spraying them with a water protector before wearing them for the first time.
If your shoes get wet, allow them to dry naturally completely before wearing them again. Then clean and waterproof them again with a multipurpose protector.
When you travel, always place your shoes inside a shoe bag or wrap them in a soft cloth.
